'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the nail-biting closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles amid the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative strike from outside the box, and his teammate immediately hammered in the loose ball before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This sealed an unbelievable recovery given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. During the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result booked a next round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that range," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right flank after Orient changed formation. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way Orient played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to keep pace."

New Chapter

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without serious challenge. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that growth for his team and nation, shining for his national side, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including home and away encounters against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

It has been quite the ride for the player from the local area in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's only game for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was shut owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged 16? "This turned out fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to his new neighborhood, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to socialize with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on the Tube after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
